Diskarte, diskartador. This series of works by Nunelucio Alvarado is about the strength and creativity of the human spirit. By nature, it persists. By instinct, it survives. It struggles to survive and does so in such intriguing fashion. An evolution of sorts occurs. “Diskarte” is ilonggo for creatively making do. The method is always positive and alluring even comical yet often impressive. This is the artist's interpretation of how man, specifically the Filipino, beset by tragedies and calamities, arises and evolves in the midst of it, as brother and sister, as community and with the indomitable strength of the human spirit.

Nunelucio Alvarado hails from the town of Pabrika, Sagay. He studied painting at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Advertising at La Consolacion College School of Architecture and Fine Arts in Bacolod City. He is the founding member of Bacolod Black Artists in Asia that brought their art international recognition. He was twice a recipient of the prestigious Philip Morris Art Awards and many other notable awards. While his paintings portray social realities, his life is deeply entrenched in it as well. He is revered as one of the top Negrense artists and is nationally acclaimed. His works grace the halls of our national museums and the CCP.

Diskarte runs from April 12, 2014 to May 12, 2014.
