Nunelucio Alvarado is one of the leading artists in the Philippines today. He studied painting at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Advertising at La Consolacion College School of Architecture and Fine Arts in Bacolod City. He is a member of Bacolod Black Artists in Asia. Resilient in his honest expressions on social realities, Alvarado is revered both nationally and internationally. Kabuhi is the ilonggo term for “Life”. The Kabuhi series is Alvarado’s depiction of Negros islands’ life source, reminiscent of scenes from the coast and the fields.
Alvarado is a member of the highly politicized Bacolod’s BAA (Black Artists in Asia) and founder of Pamilya Pintura and Pintor Kulapol. He was twice a recipient of the prestigious Philip Morris Art Awards (1997, 1999), 13 Artists Award (1992), and also the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan sa Larangan ng Pintura Award (2004). He inexhaustibly mirrors the ever changing landscape of Philippine society through his paintings and drawings focusing on vital issues such as environmental and cultural issues. He dedicates his achievements to the purpose of uplifting the society and culture.
Kabuhi opens on September 18, 2010 and culminates with the opening of the Masskara Festival on October 16, 2010.
