Susanito Sarnate hails from La Carlota, the city of beauty and dance, home of the one of the oldest and most prominent sugar mills in the province of Negros Occidental.

An expert in making terracotta sculptures, Sarnate shares his passion with us in his detailed rendition of the simple pleasures in life.

At the age of six, he was already fond of forming sculptures and figures out of clay. Now, he is known for his gifted potter’s hand. He utilizes materials such as wood, glass, bamboo, tin, and cloth to create detailed images.

In 2001, he won the grand prize during the Pasalamat Festival by showcasing his expertise in terracotta. In 2003, his works were declared as the best entries in Panaad sa Negros.

In “Simple Pleasures”, Sarnate successfully shares his ideals in life. His works relay in intricate detail ordinary activities of rural living. Sarnate advocates that to enjoy life, one does not need to go places and conform with today’s idea of success, but in the little things and everyday normalcy, one finds joy.
