Artist's Statement

Compra:

“Nature is a perfect reservoir of inspiration, It is an innate response of a person growing upon its environment to be adaptive.” – Anonymous

As an artist, working mainly on various techniques within the production, the process involves procedures that were mimicked from traditional local crafts and production methods. Most of these methods derived from the earlier civilizations such as weaving and coiling. It was commonly used before unto weaving and building boats. In the Filipino setting; building traditional houses like the “nipa huts” and various local crafts.

The total atmosphere of the artwork further enhanced by the rendition of neutral and earth tones resembled from the materials and the environment itself. The goal was to create an autobiographical piece, a memoir relating to the artist’s visual experiences. It relates to the over-all present state, aiming to comprise his relationship with nature delving into a universal mean.

It encompasses the influx of internal motivations, social and academic influences that were manifested through the images and symbols in the artwork.

Bakh:

Assemblage (ah-sem-blahj) also known as construction, is a form of sculpture comprised of objects (organic or man-made) arranged to form a piece.

The art consists of layers that suggest similarities to that of paper-cut-collage. However, this type of work differs from collage beginning from the process to the finished piece. The result blurs the margins of relief sculpture, collage and painting.

The usage of metal for the plane proved to be very helpful since it gave larger boundaries for the process. It is sturdy; therefore it can withstand a specific stress and weight.

What every viewer must notice is that one of the valued essence of this art is the ascendance of each of the layers as though an illusion that pieces float from one another and that they work together to form a single piece. The very same aspect when clouds overlap each other and form a figure that is often associated to any forms that are familiar such as animals. It is also similar when one gazes up from under a tree and sees layers of leaves, twigs and branches that block the light from the sky. The humble gaps in between positive and negative space, and the form every piece alludes to as a whole makes the piece different, thus effective.

The idea is to further enhance the movement by coming up with a style that will overcome the usual idea of an assemblage. To be able to use skills with the help of metal texture and paint as means for innovation to the art scene.
